How to Create a Bootable Windows 2000 SP4
CD (Slipstreaming)
(To
do this with Easy CD Creator 6)
Needed Software:
- Windows 2000 Professional
CD
- CDRWIN
3.9A
- Service
Pack 4
- WinZip
1. Copy the entire contents of your Windows 2000 Professional CD to C:\W2PFPP_EN.
2. Using WinZip, extract the contents of W2KSP4_EN.exe (Service Pack 4) to C:\sp4.
3. From a command prompt, execute this command:
"C:\sp4\i386\update\update.exe /s:C:\W2PFPP_EN".
(Do not include the quotes.) A GUI should pop up and show you the progress of the update.
A notification will be given once the update is complete.
4. You will now need to extract the boot sector of your Win2K CD. It will be used to to make your new CD bootable. Place your Win2K CD in
your CD-ROM drive, open CDRWIN, and then select the "Extract Disc/Tracks/Sectors" option. You should now see this screen:

Make sure the CD-ROM drive with your Win2k CD is selected at the top. Verify that all of the
settings are EXACTLY the same as shown above. Choose to save the extracted boot.bin file to
c:\temp. The extract method should be set to "Select Sectors". Sector Selection 'Start' and
'End' should both be set to 20, and the Datatype should be set to "Data Mode1 (2048)". Default
values are suitable for all other settings. After verifying all settings, Click on Start,
to extract the boot.bin file.
5. After you've extracted the boot.bin file to c:\temp, click on the "File Backup and Tools"
button. You will be presented with a screen like the one below. Verify that all of your
settings are exactly the same, making sure that "C:\W2PFPP_EN" is shown in the "File Backup
List" field as shown below.

6. Click on the Advanced Options box (in the middle). In the Volume Descriptor tab
(shown below), type in the CD's Volume Label in the appropriate field. The Volume Label for
Windows 2000 Professional is "W2PFPP_EN" as shown below.

7. Next, click on the Bootable Disc tab. Enter the exact values shown below. Be sure
to set Load Sector Count to 4!

8. Now click OK, and you're back to the main burning options screen. From here, click the
Start button to begin burning your CD. NOTE: The free downloadable version of CDRWIN will
burn the CD at single speed. This will take approximately 30 minutes.
