N.Y. Hands Garfunkel Another Pot Charge

My God, Art Garfunkel needs to realize that he is just a little too old to still be smokin' the doob!

The man is 63 years old and can't figure out what a stop sign is for and to make matters worse, when the police man pulls him over his car reeks of pot! You would think if you were lightin' the doob you would try a little harder to follow the rules of the road. 2nd time in 18 months!!

SMT 5600 -- Continued

Two days ago when I posted the instructions on unlocking the sim card of my Audiovox SMT5600 I forgot to add something that I wanted to post here. The picture of my phone.
SMT5600
This is really one of the coolest phones around and has so many features built into it, I really do think that it will last me almost a year before I want another one

Unlocking your Sim Card, how & why!!

I am really just posting this information here from another site as I don't want to lose it once I get around to needing it....

What is a SIM and what is unlocking

Ordinary cell phone service works so that the unique serial number in your phone (its ESN) is used by the cell phone service provider to identify who you are. The wireless service 'knows' that a particular phone's serial number is your phone and knows to send phone calls to that phone when someone dials your phone number.

A GSM phone is not directly linked to you. Instead, it has a removable account card, called a SIM (subscriber information module) and this SIM has a unique serial number on it. This is what identifies you to the wireless provider.

The important difference about this is that you can put your SIM into any compatible phone (and pretty much all modern GSM phones are compatible with all modern SIMs) and that phone will now act as your phone, because the wireless company sees your SIM inside it. It doesn't care that you've changed phones, all it cares is where to find your SIM.

And now for the really exciting part of this. Just as, in theory, you can put any SIM in any phone, the opposite is also true. Any phone can work with any SIM. So, if you've already bought an expensive phone that you like and have learned how to use, if you change from one GSM wireless company to another one, you don't have to change phones. You can keep the phone you've grown to like, and all you need to do is replace the first company's SIM with your new service provider's SIM.

But, some wireless providers 'lock' their phones, meaning that their phones have been programmed to only work with SIMs issued by their company. Reversing that programming - unlocking your phone so it can work with any SIM - is what this is all about.

And now for unlocking using SMT 5600:

I followed Cyberdim's instructions
i) ran aeconfig
ii) checked if still app locked with checklock.exe --- result still app locked (if you know that your phone is not application locked then skip this step)
iii) ran ResetSecurity
iv) checked if still app locked with checklock.exe --- result now app unlocked
v) ran SPV-Services C500 unlock
vi) tested with T-Mobile, AT&T, Cingular SIM --- result SIM unlocked

That should do it for now, till next time, keep your private parts private and your public parts clean!!

CSC452 Database Programming

I am in Database Programming class which at DePaul is CSC452.  The class is a little frustrating, because of the following:

Currently: Oracle released 10g over a year ago and no longer offers any other version for download
My last course: My last course (CSC454) was database administration which we used 10g
CSC452: Our textbook is version 9.1 (which is the 2nd most recent version - so that is not bad as far as trying to find info).
The server that we must use is located at hawk.depaul.edu and that runs version 8.

What a mess, you try to run code and of course it is not yet supported.  How frustrating, anyway, till next time… Later!!

My pathetic blogging this month

Of course we all say we have been busy but that truly is my excuse for why I have not been writing to my blog as often as I would like to have been. This summer I am taking 2 Graduate classes to try to finish up my Masters Degree earlier. There is no terrible rush to get it done, I just want to get it done.

So anyway, 2 classes which meet 2 nights per week (EACH) and both classes are located in the Loop, one on Monday/Wednesday and the other on Tuesday/Thursday.
I just finished my first of them (CSC454) which is Database Administration and Management using Oracle and I got a 98% in that class which of course a solid A. I am still trying to make up for my abysmal performance in the class several semesters ago where the teacher gave me an A- for my 93.1% and basically smashed my GPA down to a 3.82. You see I need a 3.90 to graduate with distinction (honors).

I will try to be more diligent in writing my thoughts/wishes/desires and favorite websites in the coming months.

Till next time, keep your eye to the sky and feet out of the poo!
